There's no guarantee that NJ would have figured out those social cues in another year of kindergarten. It takes some people a longer time than that to figure out how to behave socially. In fact, I think that being one of the youngest in the class means that he is more likely to learn to be led in his new class of older, supposedly more experienced kids. If he's always dealing with younger kids, and he's really smart, then he'll won't respect them enough to be led by them.
